A Cut Above - Day Six

This online class has mega videos to watch. I love all the tricks and hints that I am learning and I know I will be going back to watch them again. I know how to use embossing folders but today's class was great for learning how to do special embossing and some really neat techniques. My card is pretty plain in comparison to what we learned. I just sanded my embossed piece down. I liked how that gave it a little softer look. I then embossed another piece of card stock but only used the one sentiment from it for the contrasting piece in the middle of my card. I also colored a few of the flowers in to add a bit of detail. I'll be back tomorrow with a card from day seven's class...yay!

A Cut Above - Day Five

Another neat technique I learned and I know I will be going back to use from time to time. It really does add nice dimension to the card. This will be for my nephew - he is graduating from 8th grade. I think it is a great guy card. I popped the brown card stock up on cream card stock to create space. I than was able to drop the third star into the cut out.

I love using my old ribbon scraps to do this. And they thought I was crazy hanging on to those scraps! 

A Cut Above - Day Four

I have made this card for my dear niece, Megan. She is leaving this week for Nicaragua. She is going to be a Country Director for the United States for Help International. I think I got that right. I had a bit of a time doing this card but it's okay. The die cuts I used are by Cuttlebug. They come four in a pack. They are a thin version of a sizzex.  I will have to get different dies and try again. I am glad I tried it today. Thanks for showing us so many new things!

OCC - A Cut Above - Day Three

I am loving this class because it makes me do things that I wouldn't normally do. This card was so easy to do and I was pretty pleased with it. I like how the top paper has the definition of family. I have great plans to give this to someone very special. I just hope 'It's a Girl' is the phrase that I'll be hearing. My niece is due any day now and I just know I will be away when the baby comes. Would I be jinxing it if I just carry this girl card?

A Cut Above - Day 2 and RIC #10 YAY!

Congrats to the DT at RIC... up to the tenth model and no mishaps on the runway! Here is a picture of the tenth model and my card for the  Runway Inspired Challenge follows. 

Belive it or not, the orange-tinted vellum in the circle is also being used as one of the chevrons at the bottom of the card. Put a little bit of white behind that vellum at the bottom and it gets a whole new look. Kind of a bummer because in person this is more of a peek-a-boo card. The vellum is pretty sheer. In this picture it almost looks yellow. The card stock around the edge of the card is a deep gold - you'd never know it!  I took alot of pictures in different settings - no dice. I love the cream paper. It is called Raw Silk from The Paper Company. It has a great texture, almost like cloth, as does one of the silver chevrons. 

 I took the piece of vellum and used Versa Mark for my sentiment. I embossed it with black Ranger embossing powder... love that! I used my black Copic marker and went around the edge of my window cut out. I like how it finished the look of the window.  I then took my square piece of vellum and attached it to the back of my window.  

I also am taking the Online Card making Class - A Cut Above. This card was inspired by Day 2: Window Cards. 

PS: I am going to take some pictures of this card today, saturday, and see if I have better luck.

A Cut Above - Day One

I truly enjoyed making these flowers. The patterned paper is from So Sophie from My Mind's Eye. It matches SU's Cajun Craze card stock spot on. I used double sided tape on the middle flower to make it more 'daffodil-like', so the petals would stand up higher. You can see that in the second picture. 

I used the Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die. Yes, I did go out and buy it after I saw the video... 

Oh, and since the paper was white on the other side, I sponged it with cajun craze. 

OCC - A Cut Above

I am taking an online card class called A Cut Above. I WON registration for the class! I commented on the My Paper Secret blog and the very talented Cristina informed me that she pulled my name out of the hat! (Or used the random number generator and it picked my lucky number!) I am so excited to be taking this class. So, I have been very busy making cards for a party and now that I am done I can get down to business. Yay! I am putting this card up - but with some hesitation. I know how I want to do it better will come to me. I'll be back with another version some day. But thanks to Cristina for the prize. I hope to do her proud!
